Title: The Perfect View
Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: Inara/Zoe (meant to be femslashy but could be read as friendship fic)
Rating: PG
Warnings: This is set after the film but there are no spoilers for anything.
Author's Note: Written for a challenge at
whedonland.
Inara sat on the steps and watched Zoe as she worked on their new mule. The companion was fascinated by the way Zoe’s muscles pulled together as she tried to patch up a hole caused by a poorly aimed shot-gun blast. Jayne swore the damage was caused by ‘one a those morons back on that piece of dung rock’ but Inara knew Mal and Zoe suspected their mercenary was the true culprit.
Zoe let out a soft grunt as she caught her hand on a sharp edge and Inara was by her side in an instant.
“Let me see,” Inara said, reaching out for Zoe’s wounded hand. Inara shook her head as she examined Zoe’s injury. “You should’ve let me help with the repair.”
“You ain’t feelin’ up to it,” Zoe pointed out and Inara could not deny that she had been feeling unwell for the past few days. Zoe shrugged and used her good hand to wipe the hair from her damp forehead. “’Ain’t more than a scratch anyhow.”
Inara was not convinced but she un-wrapped the silk scarf from around her neck and used it to bandage Zoe’s hand. “That should take care of it for the moment but you should have Simon give it a closer look when he gets back on-board.”
“Will do,” Zoe said, flashing Inara a small smirk. Inara went back to her place on the steps as Zoe resumed her work and tried her best to hide her elation at the sight of Zoe’s rare smile.
Title: Ain’t No Such Thing As Normal
Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: Kaylee/River, past Kaylee/Simon
Rating: PG
Warnings: This fic takes place after the BDM and may contain vague spoilers through the film.
Author's Note: Written for a challenge at
whedonland.
Kaylee’s romance with Simon was short but sweet and ended just the same. The first few weeks after their break-up were awkward as hell but they worked through ‘em as best they could and Kaylee was happy as a clam when things finally got back to normal. Or near as they could with a life like theirs. But life on Serenity returned to chaos the night River decided to stick her tongue down Kaylee’s throat just as they were all sittin’ down to dinner and announce that she and Kaylee were lovers.
Later that night, after Kaylee assured River that she weren’t mad and she weren’t ashamed of nothin’, she tried to explain to River that she’d wanted to tell Simon about their relationship in a more...private-like way.
River shook her head and kissed the tip of Kaylee’s nose. “She apologizes that she upset you but the pain was unavoidable,” River said, eyes shinnin’ with equal parts wisdom and innocence. “There is no known treatment, medicinal or otherwise, for a broken heart.”
